News on the PSN front

As many of you know, the Playstation Network has been down for many weeks. Today announcements have come down from Sony. The first is a video message from Kazuo Hirai Sony's Executive Vice President.

That video is this one:

Also out today is a map that shows which areas will be getting the updates, and which areas have them already. Here is that map if you are curious: Play ON.

Sony has said they will have a welcome back package as part of this deal. Here's hoping that Sony has solved their problems and that this will not continue to be a problem.

If you are a PlayStation user, then I hope you take heart in this.

Modern Warfare 3 = CONFIRMED!

Infinity Ward formally announced today the existence of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 with a trailer entitled America Under Siege. Watch it:

The long speculation can now end. This trailer is as you may recall very similar to the first MW2 trailer when it was first announced.

All we know for now is that it seems to take place largely in the U.S. Particularly New York City with the shot of the missiles flying over Manhattan.

The game is currently slated to be released on November 8th this year according to the official MW3 Facebook page: MW3 Facebook Page. No other details have been released yet. Stay tuned here for all the last news!

A New Chapter Unfolds on the Stage of History...

Welcome back everyone! There's a few things going on in the world today. First we have a new trailer for Rockstar's latest project, L.A. Noire. It is a typical open-world type game set in the 1940's LA with you as an up and coming detective trying to fight coruption in the LAPD. It comes out next week so you still have a chance to pre-order the game. Here's the trailer:

The second trailer is for the new Soul Calibur game, just announced today! There's only one problem. The game doesn't come out until next year.
I'll let the trailer speak for its self:

Thanks to IGN for that trailer!

And last up we have a video that was posted by Major Nelson on his twitter account today. It's not really game related, but it is really cool. It is talking about the stopping distance of the new 747-8F. Check it out:

Well that's all I've got for today.

Tuesday News!

So today we have a big news story coming out of Redmond. Microsoft is buying Skype for $8.5 Billion. Yes that's billion with a b not with a m. This is the single largest acquisition that Microsoft has ever made. Which seems a little strange until you realize that Microsoft has made all of their major products in-house.

This deal is great for Microsoft supporters especially Xbox users because it could mean the Microsoft might bring Skype to the Xbox Live platform replacing Video Kinect. Microsoft has said that the current Skype CEO will run a new business unit that will run Skype and he will report directly to Steve Ballmer. And if you wanta learn more about this here is the article on CBS : Microsoft buys Skype for $8.5B

There is more gaming news today. As I said yesterday, I am going to tell you whats going on on Xbox Live Marketplace. Gattling Gears is coming out on Arcade tomorrow. And there will be a demo up tomorrow if you want to give this game a try. The game will be going for 1200 Microsoft Points.

Three came out today for Games On Demand:
1. DiRT 2
2. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
3. Vanquish

And on Thursday the Aliens Lifestyle Collection will be coming out.

Well that's all I've got for today.

That is all. Carry On!

Wired Gamers Week in Preview: May 9, 2011

Welcome back people for another edition of the Wired Gamers Week in Preview.
Alright we'll start out this week by talking about the major game releases that are coming out tomorrow:

First we have  game that I am personaly excited about LEGO Pirates of the Caribean. Here it is on Amazon: LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean on Amazon
This is probably the widest release this week as it is launching worldwide on virtually every platform.

Next up we have another major release the game Brink. Here it is on Amazon: Brink on Amazon. It is launching on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. It looks like a very unique game.

The third major game release is an offroad racing game called MX vs ATV Alive. This game is unique because THQ is experimenting with this game by selling it at a lower price. They are marketing it as a Triple-A title, with a Triple-A budget. But it's MSRP is $40 instead of the usual $60.  Here's hoping THQ's experiment works, because it coule eventually mean cheaper games all around. Well here it is on Amazon: MX vs ATV Alive on Amazon.

And our last major video game release this week is Virtua Tennis 4. This game supports both Move and Kinect. This is the first major tennis game on the Kinect. It is also launching on the Wii. If tennis is your thing, then I suggest you pick this game up here: Virtua Tennis 4 on Amazon.

Now a list of some of the DVD releases this week:
1. Black Death (Drama, Horror, Mystery) Pre-Order
2. Blood Junkie (Adventure, Comedy, Horror) Pre-Order
3. Blood Oath (Horror) Pre-Order
4. Blue Valentine (Drama, Romance) Pre-Order
5. Christmas in July (Comedy, Romance) Pre-Order
6. Cougars, Inc. (Comedy) Pre-Order
7. Hail the Conquering Hero (Comedy, War) Pre-Order
8. The Hit List (Drama, Thriller) Pre-Order
9. Home Improvement (The 20th Anniversary Complete Collection) (Comedy, TV) Pre-Order
10. I Saw the Devil (Crime, Thriller) Pre-Order
11. My Little Chickadee (Comedy, Western) Pre-Order
12. No Strings Attached (Comedy, Romance) Pre-Order
13. The Sign of the Cross (Drama) Pre-Order
14. Something Wild (Comedy, Drama, Crime) Pre-Order

If any of those movies strike your fancy feel free to follw the Pre-Order link to Amazon.

There are no releases on the PSN this week since the PSN is still down unfortunantly. For those of you following this, Sony said the PSN was supposed to be up last week. Now it is looking like the PSN might now be up until later this month.

Xbox Live Marketplace releases will be posted later this week.

That is all. Carry On!

Thor Review

As many of you know, Thor came out this weekend. Thor is the latest production of Marvel Studios, Marvel Comics' movie production studio. Thor was heavily hinted at last year in Iron Man 2's after credits scene. With agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. discovering Thor's hammer mjolnir in the New Mexico desert. This movie starts shortly before that event, and shows what happened to bring Thor to Earth.

Overall I would say this is a great  movie. It shows how well comic books can be brought to movies. I did see this movie in 3D, but it also being shown in 2D as well. I have to say I feel like it translated pretty well to 3D. But I noticed that you could really only notice the 3D when there were objects in the foreground. For example, there was a scene when Thor was laying on the ground, and Natalie Portman's character was leaning over him. Thor's head was 3D but Natalie Portman was not.

I especially like how Thor takes significantly from Norse mythology. It really plays into an overall great story. Also Natalie Portman, and Anthony Hopkins are both great in this film. And even though I was a little skeptical of the fact that the actor who was playing Thor was relatively unheard of, he was great as well. The after-credits scene, which is typical in a Marvel film, was interesting, but it is difficult to determine if they were setting up next years Avenger film, or a second Thor film. Either way it is worth staying for,

I recommend seeing this movie, especially if you are a comic book fan, or just simply a fan of the Marvel movies.

New Comic Movie Trailers

Happy Saturday everyone. Today I have a few trailers for you all to watch.
As you all know Thor came out this weekend. So to celebrate I have new trailers from some of the other super hero movies coming out this year.
First up I have the new Green Lantern trailer:

Awesome I know. That is coming out next month.

Next up we have the new X-Men: First Class trailer. This looks much better then the previous X-Men origin story *cough* Wolverine *cough*
Any way here's the trailer:

I especially love how this movie puts the X-Men in the middle of the Cuban Missile Crisis. That is awesome.

Next we have the newest Captain America trailer. A lot of people have been bad mouthing this movie, but it looks awesome.
Observe:

Another great movie. This year is going to be one of the best ever for comic book movies.
Last up we have the most recent Transformers 3 Dark of the Moon trailer. Now granted this is not truly a comic book movie, but it is in the definitely a nerdy geeky type movie so we can squeeze it in here.
Check it out:

And that is all of the movies that I am personally excited for this year. I have to say I think that we have a great year shaping up for movies and next year is looking great as well, which will be highlighted by the Avengers movie.

That is all. Carry On!

May the 4th Be With You

Happy Star Wars Day everyone!!
So things have been very busy in the Wired Gamers world, and the real world as well. On Sunday U.S. Navy SEALS took down Public Enemy Number One. And most of us here at Wired Gamers are finishing up school for the year.
As you may have noticed from my intro and the title of today's post, it is Star Wars Day, May the 4th (get it?). And thanks to the internet, I traced down the origins of of this geek holiday. According to ABC, the holiday comes from a misinterpretation of a George Lucas interview by a German news organization who interpreted "May the Force be with you" as "May the 4th be with you" ABC Article.
Also today George Lucas and crew released a website discussing September's Blu-Ray release of the Star Wars Saga. Here is the webpage: May The 4th Be With You. I would greatly recommend you go to this site and see what is coming in September. I am really looking forward to this box set coming out. It looks incredible. And if you decide that what you see is super awesome, then here is the link to the box set on Amazon: Star Wars Blu-Ray on Amazon. For those of you who don't know anything about this release, there will be 3 box sets coming out in September, one that is all six movies, one for the first trilogy, and one for the second trilogy. I can't recommend it enough. The amount of special features are incredible.

Prequel Trilogy Box Set
Original Trilogy Box Set
Complete Trilogy Box Set
Yup those are the box sets. And there aren't really any big game releases this week except for the Call of Duty map pack called Escalation which if you haven't bought yet here it is: Escalation on Xbox Live. Also this weekend Thor is coming to theaters and it looks great. Plus it has Natalie Portman. All of you should go watch it this weekend.
Here is the Thor trailer:

Fast Five Review

So, for those of you who don't know, the latest Fast & Furious movie came out this weekend. I have been a big fan of the entire series. And I think that many of you have been as well. Lets think about why. Fast cars, beautiful woman, and Vin Diesel taking some names and beating the snot out of guys. So awesome.

The newest movie is nothing short of great. Is it gonna win an Oscar? Nope. But it doesn't have to. It takes the elements that we all loved from the earlier movies adds in some Ocean's Eleven, and tosses in a dash of The Rock. So it is quite possibly the best film in the series... so far. I added in the so far because while I was watching, it definitely seemed like this was going to be the last film in the series... until the after credits scene. When they slapped you over the face and said "THERE WILL BE MORE!!!" So this is not the last time we've seen Vin Diesel and gang.
As far as the plot and everything is concerned it was great (except for the girl sitting next to me yelling and gasping every time something dramatic happened). And The Rock definitely rocked this whole movie. Diesel is great, and The Rock just added to that.
Final words: If you like the earlier films, you will enjoy this. It is a fun filled testosterone and fast cars. I would recommend it to anyone. However if you don't like the earlier movies, you will hate this movie.
Watch it. Check it out. It’s great.
That is all. Carry on!
